Grew up in Conover, NC. Went to Newton-Conover High School and attended CVCC in Hickory. Before he moved to Charlotte in 1998 to join an industrial sales team, an F&I Manager at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet had already pulled him aside and told him he was a natural fit for the finance department. He filed that away. He shifted into software sales during Y2K before a lifelong friend brought him into mortgage in late 2001 as the company's first employee. He's also a father, and his son attends Mountain Island Charter School.
He entered mortgage in 2001, starting in processing at a startup brokerage. Learning to build files before ever originating one shaped how he thinks about what a complete file actually looks like. That foundation followed him through origination, branch management, and an early chapter when First Houston Mortgage morphed into Envoy Mortgage, where he was one of four who built the North Carolina team during that transition. From there he moved into manufactured housing specialty work at CountryPlace Mortgage, then in 2015 opened one of the first two NC branches for Geneva Financial. He spent eight years there as a producing branch manager. In between the three different IMBs over 16 years, he was selected as the only external hire from more than 3,100 candidates for a BB&T mortgage role and earned VP status there.
He started building RealApproval to give his clients a better experience -- the kind the process is capable of when someone actually runs it right. Abode Loan, LLC is where it lives in practice.
